I Love You Man

I saw this movie in theatres opening night and watched it again now that it has been released on DVD. I will confess now I am a huge Paul Rudd fan and find nothing wrong with the choices that he has made (yes even with Over Her Dead Body).

Paul Rudd's character is Peter, a real-estate agent, who proposes to his girlfriend, Zooey (Rashida Jones), at the beginning of the film. When he overhears her & her friends discussing that they find it odd that he doesn't have any guy friends, he sets out on "man-dates" to find a best man for his wedding. Hilarity ensues as he is setup with a high-pitch sports fanatic, a seemingly nice, new-to-town family friend who puts the moves on him and an 80+ guy who had posted a photo of himself when he was 30-ish online after just learning about the Internet a few years ago. He finally meets Sydney (Jason Segel) at an open house at Lou Ferrigno's that Peter is the lead seller on. They immediately have great banter and the nervous energy that Peter has & the calm, cool that Sydney has meld so brilliantly that you feel that they could be buddies. Well Peter calls him and, once again, hilarity ensues. I hate giving away too much so I will stop here.

There are so many moments in this movie that are brilliant with Rudd & Segel where you can tell that they feed off of each other in scenes. Paul Rudd nails the appropriate looks that convey to the audience the general unease that he has in making friends that aren't women. Segel's character isn't too over the top as to be gross-out on an unnecessary level, which is a nice restraint. The movie does get stolen every time Jamie Pressley & Jon Favreau appear onscreen, together or apart. Their hate-love relationship and pervy undertones with each other are hysterical and a little disturbing, but a nice balance for the seemingly perfect relationship that Peter & Zooey are. My favorite thing about this movie though is that we are once again blessed with the vocal stylings from Paul Rudd... He has such a pleasing voice and I just can't get enough of it. He is probably one of the few movie stars that I would actually purchase their music cd.

I give this movie an A. It has humor, heart, awkwardness and a solid story.
